Each Pounamu has a story... What will yours be?
Pounamu, also known as jade or greenstone, is a precious stone revered by Māori and New Zealanders alike. Pounamu is often carved into what we call taonga, a sacred implement or adornment which has a deeply personal meaning connecting the wearer to their family, ancestors and the land.
Pounamu - Shop
Wānanga - Workshop
Aaron runs a one day Wananga/workshop where at its most basic participants make a simple Hei Toki or Roimata (Adze/teardrop) shape pendant. The start of this process begins with learning how Maori once worked Pounamu using hoanga(sandstone) and then progresses to modern tooling with the introduction of a bench grinder to define your shape further.
Hanga - Create your own
With his home studio based in Hastings Aaron is able to work with commuity groups, corporates and schools to create their own Toanga. This is a personalised experience enabling participants a hands on approach to build their knowledge about pounamu carving and what it means to Māori.
