Kura - For Schools
Since 2015 Aaron has successfully developed and ran his one day wananga in school groups across Hawkes Bay. He has grown it into the surrounding regions of the Wairarapa and across to the Manawatu. Working with year 5 students and up. Over the day he takes students on journey of creating their own taonga using traditional methods through to contemporary powered machinery and then the importance of hand finishing the work. This process brings students together to work on an individual project connecting them to the past in a communal setting where they get to encourage each other learning together. As they each navigate the challenge of working the stone against another to achieve an outcome the inevitable lessons of patience, perseverance and inquiry often spark off the creativity many don’t realise they have. A truly rewarding experience come the end of the day as they get to work through the final finishing stages and adorn themselves with the taonga(treasure) they have made.
